Supporting tenant farming

Helping tenants, landlords and agents work with confidence

Tenant farming is a core part of Scotland’s agricultural landscape, shaping rural livelihoods, business opportunities and how land is used across the country. For tenants, landlords, land agents or new entrants we understand the importance of having easy access to clear guidance, impartial advice and support to help you navigate rights, responsibilities and good practice.

The Scottish Land Commission, through the work of the Tenant Farming Commissioner (TFC), provides practical tools to strengthen relationships, resolve issues early and support a fair, modern tenant farming sector.

“Good relationships don't just happen, they are built on trust. Trust is built through clear communication and fairness. As a tenant farmer myself I have seen how small issues can grow if communication is poor. My job is to help landlords and tenants work things out before that happens.”
